Important Information About Procedures For Opening a New Account and Member Identification Requirements

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal Law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. (Section 326 of the USA Patriot Act)

What this means for you: When you open an account, we will obtain a credit report on you, ask your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We will ask to see an unexpired government issued picture identification card (driver's license, ID, passport) or other identifying documents.

In some cases, identification will be requested for current members if original documentation was not obtained with the opening of the account. In all cases, protection of our members' identity and confidentiality is our pledge to you.

We will copy items used in verifying your identity. Information contained within these documents will not be shared or disclosed to non-affiliated parties as written in our Privacy Policy.

Military Emergency Loans

To assist with unexpected expenses for our active duty, reservist members, called-to-duty National Guard and their dependents, SAFE Federal Credit Union has a $500 (minimum $250) military emergency loan. Unlike payday lenders, you have 12 months to pay off the loan at a low fixed special rate of 3.99% APR. We will even automatically draft the payment from your SAFE account.

Deployment Services

Vehicle Shipping: Our military members who are stationed overseas are allowed to ship their vehicles financed through SAFE. Getting permission from SAFE is easy: just print the Permission to Ship document, complete the form, and take it to a member service representative at your nearest service center.

These conditions must be met:
1.) Auto loan must be current
2.) Any other loan, line of credit, or credit card must be current
3.) Accounts must have a positive balance

Vehicle Insurance: Why pay full coverage insurance for your unused vehicle while deployed? Our military members who store their vehicle(s) while deployed may be given permission to reduce their insurance coverage. Deployed members who store their vehicles are allowed to drop collision insurance, but must maintain comprehensive insurance with a maximum $1,000 deductible by completing the Comprehensive Only Insurance Form.

This service is provided to our military members only.

Servicemember's Civil Relief Act (SCRA)

In December 2003, the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act (SCRA) was signed into law, replacing and expanding the previous Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act (SSCRA). It's important to know about the SCRA in order to take full advantage of the financial and legal protections it can provide to service members - including caps on interest rates, stays of certain legal proceedings, protection from eviction, and termination of leases without repercussions.
