BOARD OFFICERS NAMEDposted: Friday, April 03, 2009 Three incumbents were recently re-elected to the Board of Directors for SAFE Federal Credit Union. Incumbents Vern Disney and James King of Sumter, and R.G. Reynolds Jr. of Rembert were re-elected for three-year terms. The election results were announced at SAFE's 54th Annual Membership Meeting on March 23. About 1,200 members attended the meeting, which included reports from credit union officials, scholarship presentations, and recognition of an employee for 25 years of service.
Beverly Gagne, President/CEO and Joye Cox, VP Marketing Employee Joye Cox was named to the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) Quarter Century Honor Roll. NAFCU recognizes employees and volunteers of credit unions around the country for 25 years of service. Cox has worked for SAFE since 1984, when she was hired as marketing director. She is currently vice president of marketing, which includes oversight of the advertising, public relations, business development, research, and financial counseling areas. During the annual meeting, SAFE officials presented scholarship certificates to 16 area high school seniors who were selected by their school district to be recipients of the credit union scholarship. The scholarships are for $1,000 and are awarded to students who will be attending post-secondary school in South Carolina beginning in the fall semester of 2009.
2009 SAFE Scholarship Recipients Scholarship recipients were: Christina Duncan, Clarendon School District 1; Samantha Henry, Clarendon School District 2; Benjamin Johnson, Clarendon School District 3; Niedra Wilson, Florence School District 1; Lakeisha Lewis, Florence School District 4; Brittany Bass, Kershaw County School District; Indigo Burroughs, Lee County School District; Charlotte Woodward, Lexington School District 1; Simone Dozier, Lexington School District 2; Milligan Ruth Davis, Lexington School District 3; Justin Crolley, Lexington School District 4; Ashlee' McCoy, Richland School District 1; Xienglai Foxworth, Richland School District 2; Travis Harnage, Sumter School District 2; Ariel Slade, Sumter School District 17; and April Witherspoon, Williamsburg County School District. Prior to the annual meeting, the SAFE board elected officers for the 2009-2010 year. Elected chairperson was Kay Oldhouser-Davis of Sumter; Kenneth PriVette of Sumter was named vice chairman; Helen Smith of Cades was selected secretary; and Vern Disney was selected treasurer.
Kay Oldhouser-Davis Oldhouser-Davis has been on the SAFE board since 1998. She is the Chair of the Division of Business Administration and Economics at USC Sumter. This is her third term as chairman. PriVette is human resource director at US Group Inc. in Columbia. This is his second term as vice chairman. Smith retired from SAFE after serving as President and CEO. She was first elected to the board in 2002 and has served as secretary since 2004. Disney is a past chairman of the board and has been a director for 19 years. He is retired from the USAF and has worked as an investment advisor and as a business department faculty member at USC Sumter.
