SAFE FCU has received recognition as one of the first-place winners in two of the Credit Union National Association's (CUNA) Award Programs. Judged by asset category, credit unions selected these outstanding works for entry to demonstrate the philosophy and sense of community on which our not-for-profit institutions are built.

Employee and member response to SAFE FCU with the American Heart Association's Sumter County Heartwalk helped the credit union balance a significant decline in participation among area businesses by surpassing its own historical results to raise the second-most funds of all county businesses.SAFE also sponsored the event's Children's Corner tent since young people are a priority at SAFE.

The credit union organized fifteen branches and the administrative office through 18 team leaders, designed a team t-shirt given free to individuals meeting their fundraising goals, and awarded prizes for daily and overall branch-level achievements. Fundraising activities included breakfasts, lunches and a "DooWop Malt Shop," raffles for gift cards and salon services, jeans days, and more.

The results were 72 SAFE walkers-three times the number from 2007-plus $23,175 and two Heart Walk awards: the "Heart Hero Award" for the highest revenue for company size category, and the "New Heart Award" for most revenue among new teams since it did not participate in consecutive years.
