Veterans information stolen!
At this point there is no evidence that any missing data has been used illegally. However, the Department of Veterans Affairs is asking all veterans to be extra vigilant and to carefully monitor bank statements, credit card statements and any statements relating to recent financial transactions. If you notice unusual or suspicious activity, you should report it immediately to the financial institution involved and contact the Federal Trade Commission for further guidance.
However, if you are one of the individuals whose information has been compromised, we will work with you to help you as much as possible. We suggest putting a code word on your account and also contacting one of the three credit bureaus to have a "Fraud" alert put on your credit report. You only need to call one of the three. this will prevent anyone from obtaining credit under your social security number. the numbers are:
Equifax: 800.525.6285
Experian: 888.397.3742
Trans Union: 800.680.7289
If fraud has already occurred, we can issue you a new account number.
