shredded white paper

Shredding sensitive and identifying documents is a great way to help prevent identity theft, but how many people do you know who own shredders? Do you? Most of us don't shred enough documents to justify adding another machine to our limited home office space. But SAFE is here to help.

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personally identifying information, like your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. Don't let it happen to you!

Identity theft can happen to anyone at any time. And you can reduce the chance of having your identity stolen by joining SAFE at one of our FREE shred events where you can destroy all personal documents and files. Bring up to four boxes or bags of items to be shredded. Please don't bring plastic bags.

Suggested items to shred are financial statements, canceled checks, credit card statements and credit card pre-approval letters, payroll stubs, insurance forms, old tax returns, forms from doctors' offices, or any other document you no longer need that gives identifying and sensitive information. If a document would help someone open accounts in your name, it should be shredded.
