SAFE Federal Credit Union joins hundreds of organizations that have partnered with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners ("ACFE") for the annual Fraud Week campaign. The ACFE is the largest anti-fraud organization and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education in the world.
On June 23, 2021, the acting United States Attorney M. Rhett DeHart announced that according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s 2020 Elder Fraud Report, 1,350 South Carolinians aged 60 or over fell victim to cyber scammers. The report further explains these South Carolinians reported losses of nearly $10 million in 2020.
Additionally, in the most recent WalletHub rankings for “States most vulnerable to Identity Theft and Fraud”– South Carolina ranks #2.
SAFE is passionate about preventing fraud losses for our members and providing education and resources about potential scams and fraud trends.
During Fraud Week, as an official supporter, SAFE Federal Credit Union will engage in various activities, including:
- Conducting employee/member surveys to assess levels of fraud awareness
- Educating employees and members with articles, resources, and games on the credit union’s website and social media pages and;
- Teaming up with local media to highlight the problem of fraud.
